WYC TENNIS PROGRAM

Developing and maintaining user-friendly and age-appropriate tennis skills in a fun, respectful and energetic atmosphere.

·         Only tennis members may reserve tennis time and participate in tournaments & round robbins.

·         All adult members are welcome to the Adult Wednesday Mixers.

·         WYC Tennis lessons & scheduled tournaments have priority booking.

·         WYC tennis members may invite a non-resident guest for a fee of $10 per visit.

·         All tennis members will be issued a tennis court key and a gate key.  Replacement keys are $5.

 

Lessons

Under 6 (Tuesday & Thursday 11:00-12:00)

The Under 6 group is designed to introduce tennis to children. It will focus on improving hand-eye coordination through a series of fun drills and games. This class will learn the proper grips and basic strokes of the forehand, backhand, volley and overhead smash.

Ages 6-7 (Monday &Wednesday & Friday 9:30-10:30)

The Ages 6-7 group is a beginner class to establish tennis to young players. They will focus on learning the fundamentals of tennis including parts of the court, teamwork, sportsmanship, grips and the basic strokes. They will gain confidence in their tennis game with fun drills and games.

Ages 8-10 (Tuesday & Thursday 9:30-11:00)

This group will focus on developing their strokes, from forehands and backhands to volleys and to the introduction of the serve. In addition, they will gain knowledge of different strategies and techniques, learn to score a match, and introduction to point play. The class will feature fun games to improve their skills.

Ages 10+ (Tuesday & Thursday 11:00-12:30)

This group will continue to improve their tennis game by learning different spins, strategies, and game plans. This class will put emphasis on the players learning a variety of strokes and introduction of playing points. This class will help prep tennis players for playing on the team in the future.

Team (Monday & Wednesday & Friday 10:30-12:30)

The team will focus on developing their match play skills. Lessons on Mondays and Wednesdays will focus on stroke development, singles and doubles strategy, fitness, and teamwork. Fridays (optional) will be point play days to prep the team for matches against Bass Rocks throughout the summer. The team is by try-out only.

Women A (Monday & Wednesday & Friday 8:30-9:30)

This class is for women who want to improve their tennis game to the next level. The class will focus on stroke specific drills and strategic games for the intermediate tennis player.

Women B (Tuesday & Thursday 8:00-9:30)

This class is perfect for the tennis player with little or no experience. Instruction will concentrate on proper grip and the four fundamental strokes of the forehand, backhand, serve, and volley.

Men (Saturday 8:30-10:00)

This Saturday morning class will emphasize stroke development drills as well as point play in both singles and doubles. The class will learn different techniques, strategies, and game plans to advance to the next level of their game.

Events

Adult Mixers

Adult tennis mixers will be held every Wednesday night. They are fun social mixers where adults will play doubles and mixed doubles matches in a round robin format. There will be food, drinks, music, and prizes.

Parent/Child Tournament

There are two Parent/Child tournaments this year that will be held at the Wingaersheek Yacht Club courts. Each parent/child duo will play several matches in a round robin format. There will be two age divisions and all members and levels are welcome to play. Great fun and prizes will be awarded to the winners. There will be more information to come.

Bass Rocks Match

The Wingaersheek team will be participating in two matches against Bass Rocks this summer. They will be playing singles, doubles, and mixed doubles. Wingaersheek members are welcome to support the team at Bass Rocks on 7/10 and 8/14 from 1-4 pm.

Club Policies

Only tennis members may reserve tennis time and participate in tournaments & round robins. 

WYC Tennis lessons & scheduled tournaments have priority booking on WYC courts.

WYC tennis members must reserve a court on the weekly posted sign up sheet at WYC courts.

WYC tennis members may invite and sign in a non-resident guest for a fee of $10 per visit. 

Guests of WYC members may not visit the WYC courts more than two visits per season.

All tennis members will be issued a tennis court key. Replacement keys are $5.

Lessons are $125 per 4-week session. Men's tennis and under 6 is $125 for 7-week session.
